When I work 1:1 with clients, I ask them to start thinking about priorities in all areas of their lives. When we look at financial matters, what are the things that are holding them back from moving toward their life purpose. One of the things that I had started to learn from my pastor and in my ministry school was to start giving to others, and what I began to understand how important it was to tithe to the Lord and God’s people, it took this victimhood out of the circumstances I was living in from the medical situation I had found myself thrust into. As I began to become obedient to what the Lord was asking me to do, I felt a joy inside of me, not because it was gratifying me, but because I saw true needs of individuals being met, that were not always being met by the world or the church. I saw people’s hearts being touched by Jesus, and seeing that His love for them was real, when so many had ignored their requests. This, to me, is why it is so important to be accountable to the Lord and to follow through on what He is asking us to do for ourselves and others.
For this week, I want all of us to concentrate on the following scripture: James 2: 15-17 “If a brother or sister be naked, and destitute of daily food, And one of you say unto them, Depart in peace, be ye warmed and filled; notwithstanding ye give them not those things which are needful to the body; what doth it profit? Even so faith, if it hath not works, is dead, being alone.”
In these times, we are all struggling with our finances. I truly get that. My challenge to everyone is to start with 10 dollars. If you use that to eat out or go get coffee, pull ten bucks each paycheck. Sit down, and pray with the Holy Spirit and ask who in your life needs assistance. It could be a single mom, it could be a co-worker who needs help. You simply would be surprised the pain and suffering that others are going through because we are so wrapped in our own little world. Ask the Lord of how you can start helping others. I start with 10 dollars because you don’t know how a simple 10 dollars could help a single mom with gas, or groceries, or laundry. Ask the Lord to show you where someone needs help. Follow through and be obedient and don’t expect others to pay you back. Jesus will see your effort and know your heart and let God pay you back in His own time.
We have to get to a point where we start picking up the slack for where the body of Christ is not and the church is not for basic needs and we have to raise the temperature all the way around to get us back to where we all need to be operating at. We all need correction in so many areas as body and a people. This is judgment, but if we are going to thrive, we have to start assessing these areas correctly, and helping one another course correct, so we can all individually and collectively be effective.
